As part of moves to convert TV-am’s old studios into new office space MTV has been granted planning permission to change the front of the building, putting windows looking out onto Hawley Crescent and removing the sunshine archway. The T, V, A & M letters at the Sainsbury’s supermarket end of the street have also been removed. The canal side of the building has been repainted, but the TV-am egg cups remain on the roof of the building.
One of the first examples of post modern architecture in Britain it won a Civic Trust Award in 1985.
Tom Ravenscroft, who submitted the project, commented: “I can’t believe more people weren’t furious when this happened…”
